Here, but not really

I look at you
but I don’t see you
My eyes are glazed over
Darting from corner
to corner
Impatiently glancing
at my phone
Expecting a push
notification of
A like, a tweet,
a status update.

I hear you
but I’m not listening
My ears are
tuned into songs
from a faraway land
Interspersed with
dings and trings
that tell me
I have a message
waiting.

I am with you
but my mind is
somewhere else
with someone
more interesting
more engaging
Someone whom
I haven’t met
at all, or in ages,
Someone who gets me
without my trying.

I enjoy the way we cuddle
in front of the TV
while I revel in
the spotlight
from fellow Tweeters
Facebookers, Instagramers
and chuckle silently
when my point of view
gets retweeted or
liked or scales
the popularity charts.

I cherish our time
together
Your face glowing
with love
And mine in the
light of my
prized gadget.
We are perfect for
each other.

P.S. Just don’t get a smart phone.

Seriously.
